Introducing the one and only Dimsum Queen...coming live from a wok near you!

Dec. 3 12:38 AM by rustificatedid

In the '90s, RPGs were a huge thing where I was growing up; Eyes on Me was played on the public radio. Everywhere you go, Japanese RPGs were the thing. Growing up in a large, extended Asian family, I would always hear all the boys fervently discussing either Final Fantasy Tactics or Sephiroth. I never knew what the big fuss was about & didn't really care about Sephiroth either (until much later!).From Brigandine to the god-awful Legend of Legaia (the only game my sis ever completed), gaming was the dominant topic among my peers. My best friend dressed up like Chun Li for a school event when kids were encouraged to wear their traditional outfits.

Gaia Online's zOMG! Recruiting For Beta Testers

Dec. 2 6:21 PM by CrimsonandClover

It had been a long day for Gemini. She was so glad to be home. The day at school could not have dragged on any slower. She gazed out of her bedroom window at the setting sun. She was always amazed at the beauty nature possessed. Gemini could feel her tense body slowly relax and accept the warmth the setting sun. It was time for her to take a shower and get ready for her real day to begin. For when the sun set was when Gemini really came alive. It was time to go out on the town.

Above is the first post I ever made on a little site called Gaia Online. Oh yes, I was a Gaian. I cannot say that I still am, and I had not logged in to my account for over a year or more. Logging back in to snatch that little tid bit sent a wave of memories rushing through me. I used to spend so much time refreshing the page, hoping someone had responded to my posts, giddy as the stories progressed, taking my character with it...

Gaia Online is, as they say about themselves, a text-based online hangout, incorporating social networking, forums, gaming and a virtual world.

Now, Gaia Online is coming out with an MMO called zOMG!

KH Re: Chain of Memories hits stores, 358/2 Release Confirmed

Dec. 2 12:02 PM by Mandifesto

When we first heard tell that Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories would be hitting American shores, there was debate a plenty here at omgRPG about whether or not CoM was worthy of a port. I land on the side that lets me experience the entire story, but then again I am a fan of the Kingdom Hearts series. What I've been missing evidently are the pieces of the story that were only available to players to owned a GBA at the time. I alas did not. You can pick up your copy at Best Buy, Gamestop, or Gamecrazy.

The news about 358/2 Days after the jump.

The Road to Wrath Raiding

Dec. 2 7:48 AM by Hindsight

I can't take it anymore! For some reason I transferred to a backwater little low pop server where the top guilds hadn't made it through Sunwell before 3.0 , and while folks seemed nice at first, if not a bit more vulgar than I am used to, they seem to think that this Naxxramas thing makes Karazan look like Sunwell in greens... as a level 12.

The raiding elite, mounted upon progression egos that cause the Traveler's Tundra Mammoth's to look up, have been running into Naxx and wiping like so many unbuffed Horde in Wintergrasp vs. that one Shaman that just won't die! Are we simple here? I browse the WoW forums and all I see are how many bosses so and so have killed in Naxx when no one can seem to survive a wave of trash on my server!

This morning I awoke, did my morning thang, then proceeded to my computer and Igoogle to see if there was anything new and interesting in the gaming world. What I found, was intriguing and entertaining to say the least.

I stumbled across a fun looking game trailer on GameTrailers.com. While there my eye was caught by an interesting link and I just had to click; because, yes, I am one of those people who starts at a site, and ends up in Timbuk-friggin-tu.

Tabula Rasa: Another MMO bites the Dust

Nov. 21 4:42 PM by Mandifesto

When I wrote the review for Tabula Rasa a year ago, I really didn't think I would be sitting here telling you that TR is no more. Today the development team announced that as of Feb. 28th, Richard Garriott's MMO brainchild will be shut down for good. This comes months after the lackluster response to Hellgate: London drove Flagship Studios to close its doors. What is happening to the MMO space?

I admit that on the whole I wasn't the game's greatest fan. I haven't played it since I reviewed it because, honestly, I didn't find the game all that fun. But I will be the first person to advocate for a variety of online games. We gamers are a diverse crowd, and we need games that feed our interests. I have to say I'm sad that TR is disappearing, because that means that there will be one less PC RPG out there for people to experience.

Times are tough all around. People are losing their jobs, people are losing their homes, so I suppose it makes sense that people will also be losing their games. Perhaps this means that it is very difficult to keep an MMO alive, and that the Free to Play model may really be the way to go. If the pursestrings are pulled tight, perhaps offering free games is the way to get players to play. Or be Blizzard.

Wrath Shatters One Day Sales Record

Nov. 20 10:16 AM by Mandifesto

We know that people were flocking back to WoW in anticipation of the release of the Wrath of the Lich King expansion, and yes, I promised myself no more Wrath news, but this is the press release I've been waiting for since we attended the Wrath launch event in San Francisco. Now it's official: Wrath has beaten the one day sales record by selling 2.8 million copies in its first 24 hours of availability. Who held the record previously? World of Warcraft, naturally, which sold 2.4 million in 24 hours. Personally I like that number better, it has more symmetry.

This sales number, even with the fact that it represents only one day of sales, catapaults Wrath to the bestselling PC game at Gamestop for all of 2008. This is not that surprising considering the plethora of midnight launch events Gamestop partnered with Blizzard to hold for the public to get their Wrath on. While I am excited by the prospect of PC RPGs getting their day in the sun, I'm not really all that surprised by these numbers. After all, there were 11 million people subscribed to WoW before Wrath hit, and I assume all if not most of that number will be picking up the expansion. Add to that the people returning to WoW, some of them after years of being estranged from the fold, and my guess is this one little expansion will sell around 12 million copies before it's done.
