In what is probably a direct result of the rash of inept policies leading to a failed war on drugs - increasing amounts of the most savage violence, brutality, even barbarous fatality have perpetuated between egregious drug cartels out to secure their own smuggle routes and economic territories. Border cities like Tijauna and Baja have been ravaged with kidnappings, beheadings, bodies dipped in acid, lit ablaze; some even slaughtered and dumped in public forums. It's utter madness!
In one of the most recent cases (3 days ago), it was reported than 9 human heads were found sprawled outside of a factory in Tijauna. The corresponding bodies were strewn out beside the heads, indiscernible. Despite Mexican president Felipe Calderon deploying 40,000 troops and a grip of federal police officers to combat the problem, there is no way in hell this type of hellish reality is going to cease anytime soon. It's stories like this that remind us all how truly fucked up and horrifying the world can be.
With roughly 5 or 6 weeks away (January 16), you can bet all kinds of press and promo material for My Bloody Valentine 3-D is set to hit the wire. Thanks to the good folks over at shocktillyoudrop.com , here's a brand new poster for the film. Said to coincide with the release of this 3-D revision, a fully restored, uncut version of the 1981 original is being assembled for us all to cop on DVD. Looking forward to that one personally!
More in the vein of a violent thriller than a conventional horror premise, Donkey Punch marks the feature length debut film for British director Oliver Blackburn. Here we have a sextet of attractive British chaps (3 guys, 3 girls actually) who meet up in a club, down some booze, and retreat to the opulent yacht the dudes seem to have access to. Once there and partying hard, one of the girls imbibes some kind of narcotic aphrodisiac (dubiously labeled "donkey punch") that springboards a series of violent erotic masochism. As shit starts to spiral downward, all kinds of hell break loose - pitting the girls versus their possibly malevolent male counterparts. Donkey Punch premiered at Sundance last January, enjoyed a screening at Fantastic Fest in September, and is set to hit limited U.S. theaters on January 23, 2009. For now though, get a dose of the red band trailer below:
Word on the street is, after a creative chasm between French directors Julien Maury, Alexandre Bustillo (Inside) and the powers that be, the door has shot open to allow Rob Zombie to reprise his duty of directing the much vaunted Halloween sequel (a sequel of his 2007 remake). Not only that, but it seems the project was originally touted for a straight to DVD release, yet since has mustered enough support and enthrallment to have a theatrical run green lit. Filming is mouthed to commence sometime in March, reportedly with Tyler Mane ripping a Mr. Myers encore. No script details have been disseminated at this point, nor come to think of it, has any on Zombie's much anticipated prehistoric-exploitation flick T-Rex. Stay posted!
Horror movie hero Bruce Campbell returns!
Legendary B-movie actor Bruce Campbell ruled the 80s and 90s with cult horror masterpieces like The Evil Dead, Evil Dead II, Army of Darkness, and Maniac Cop, but has since been keeping a low profile, making few movies worth watching like Lucky McKee's The Woods and Phantasm director's Bubba Ho-tep.
While his latest low budget cheese-fest, where he plays himself, aptly titled My Name is Bruce, is certainly no substitute for Evil Dead IV, it'll likely appeal to die hard fans of Campbell and his wise-cracking arrogant Ash persona from The Evil Dead series. That said, it's non-existent budget, terrible effects, and silly plot may be more than you're willing to look past.
Froggy is alive and well, still digesting Thanksgiving flies and gnats and whatnot. This month I'm pulling out all the stops for my underrated gem of the month. This time I ain't fuckin' around. You all up for a little Nazi S&M or some Third Reich perversion and torture?!? The film I am most pleased to share with you all is Don Edmonds' 1975 release of Ilsa, She Wolf of the SS. This is exploitation sleaze of the highest caliber; a film tethered to absolutely no moral code or sense of humility, a film that doesn't even feign attempting redemption. It's unabashed Euro trash, never once confused with itself as something else. It revels in filth, and does so without compunction or any semblance of political correctness. In other words, hands down the best type of exploitation horror!
From director Charles Adelman, the man behind the documentary Ghost Encounters: The Queen Mary (as well as a slew of Swimsuit Illustrated entries), now comes his latest horror effort 2:13. The flick, co-written by its lead Mark Thompson (Mother Ghost), also features the always entertaining Kevin Pollack and Dwight Yoakam, in addition to Teri Polo, Mark Pelligrino, Deborah Carson and Monika Jolly. Looking at the trailer, it's pretty clear the film is fusing the suspense of a police procedural with the flat out chills of a slasher horror; hopefully a recipe for success. Whether or not the 2:13 will enjoy a theatrical release is anyone's guess at this point, but the flick is still holding an unspecified 2008 distribution date. Go ahead and get a gander at the teaser trailer below!
With no clear release date yet in sight, a grip of new stills from Adam Gierasch's debut effort Autopsy have recently hit the wire. Another medical horror flick this seems, along the lines of maybe Pathology or The Morgue - this one seeing a young girl desperate to find her man in some grueling, ultra whacked out hospital. How good or bad the movie will turn out is anyone's guess (especially since Gierasch co-wrote the putrid Mother of Tears), but one thing's for damn certain, these images are straight up gore sodden. Catch a look!
Melodic Deathmetallers The Black Dahlia Murder are known for being huge horror movie buffs. The band, whose name is taken from the grisly 1947 murder of Elizabeth Short, base their lyrical content on horror, zombies, and the macabre in general. In a new music video for Everything Went Black (from their latest album Nocturnal),The Black Dahlia Murder pays tribute to George A. Romero and Steven King's awesome 1982 horror collaboration Creepshow. The band members reenact the segments from the film and do a great job. Peep the video below.
Set for an early summer blockbuster slate (May 22, 2009), Terminator Salvation is quite a star studded attraction, despite the fact it is sans Arnie in the lead role. Directed by music video turned motion picture director McG, the flick stars Christian Bale as John Connor, Anton Yelchin as Kyle Reese, as well as Bryce Dallas Howard, Helena Bonham Carter, Common, Jane Alexander, Michael Ironside and some super fine girl named Moon Bloodgood leveling out the principal cast. The 4th installment picks up after the destruction of Skynet has left most of humanity in a nuclear ash heap, where it is up to John Connor to spearhead a counterattack among the survivors and put an ultimate end to the demonic, power-parched automatons.
